Phillip Island Race Report

Brent Peters

I wanted to take a moment to share the highlights from the recent Phillip Island GT Festival, where I had the privilege of competing in the Meguiar’s Australian Production Car Championship.

Race Recap:

The weekend at Phillip Island was a challenging yet rewarding experience. The competition was fierce, with intense battles throughout the event. Here are some key takeaways:

  • Friday: The weekend kicked off with practice and Qualifying  sessions, where I focused on fine-tuning the setup of the Holden Commodore VE. The car performed well, and I was able to dial in the handling for the high-speed corners of Phillip Island.
  • Saturday: The first two races on Saturday were packed with action. The day started strong, but as the competition heated up, I had to push hard to maintain position. There were a few moments of drama, particularly in Race one, but the car held up, and finished in a respectable position.
  • Sunday: Race Three was the highlight of the weekend. Despite some intense on-track battles and a few near misses, We managed to navigate through the chaos and secure a solid finish. It was a challenging race, but the car performed admirably under pressure. Race four we unfortunately took on some damage from another competitor and had a DNF but showed great early pace.

Key Highlights:

  • Consistency and Performance: The Holden Commodore VE showcased great reliability and speed throughout the weekend. We were able to compete strongly against a tough field winning our class and remaining in the top 10.
  • On-Track Battles: There were several memorable on-track battles that tested both my skills and the car's limits. These moments were thrilling and truly demonstrated the competitive nature of the series.

Looking Ahead:

With Phillip Island behind us, the focus now shifts to preparing for the Bathurst International round of the championship. The lessons learned from this weekend will be invaluable as we continue to fine-tune the car and strategize for the remaining races.
